Our Staff

We are blessed with a wonderful, loving staff whose average time working with with Sunny Day Care children is now over eight years. And, it is also a major reason why over sixty families have entrusted their children to Sunny Day from their early, infant years through our Montessori program. Families of one, two, three and even four children have been with Sunny Day from the oldest being born until the youngest goes off to first grade. Families are what we are all about!

Owner

Sue Casey (suecasey@sunnydaycare.com)

Before founding Sunny Day Care with a friend in 1992, Sue worked as a System's Analyst for Ford Motor Credit Co. for ten years until she had her second child. Sue took training from the Michigan Montessori Teacher Education Center and became a certified Early Childhood Montessori teacher. Sue has two grown children, Mr. Joe and Miss Megan, who started out as toddlers and have worked with the children on and off for years. And her husband, Mr. Mike, or as the kids call him, Mr. Noodle, helps out with all the maintenance. Now running the business on her own, Miss Sue often sneaks out of the office and can be found in the Infant and Toddler Rooms playing with the children!

Infant Room Teachers

From six weeks through strong walking (around 18 months), the infant room has a 3:1 ratio. The "best mom besides mom" philosophy helps our new moms go off to work knowing their baby will be loved all day long (but many still leave in tears the first few days). All of our infant teachers are moms and treat each baby exactly how they would have wanted their own baby taken care of. Lots of love to go around.

Miss Pat

Pat is one of our Infant Room Teachers, and has been a part of our child care team since 1999. She loves to sing to the children and has a heart of gold! Prior to joining SDC, Pat was an administrative assistant at Little Caesars. Pat raised two grown children, a daughter (Valerie) and son (Tom), who are both married, and she loves spending time with her Grand-Puppy Miles whenever she can! In her free-time, she and her husband Mike love to hit to links and play golf at area courses all over Michigan.

Miss Emily

Miss Emily joined the Sunny Day Care team in 2005 as one of our Infant Room Teachers bringing her two young sons with her. Though she is primarily an Infant Room Teacher, in the summer she enjoys going on the field trips with the Elementary Aged Summer Program. A dedicated teacher, Emily has a magic touch with the babies in her care and she loves to watch them grow. Now a football mom to Jaden and Jacody, Emily enjoys scrap-booking in her spare time.

Miss Molly

As one of our our Infant Room teachers, Miss Molly joined Sunny Day Care in 1995 after graduating from high school. Since then Molly received her Associates Degree in child development from Schoolcraft College, and a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts from Madonna University. She is married with two boys, Ronan and Roarke, who attend SDC. As one of our dedicated Infant Room Teachers, Miss Molly is also a very creative spirit! She is always coming up with special arts and crafts projects tailored just for the babies.

Miss Robin

Robin has worked for Sunny Day Care for 8 years. While she took some time off to be with her children, and go back to school, she recently returned to Sunny Day Care in the Infant/Ones Room in early 2011. Robin went to school for Medical Assisting and is also a Certified Phlebotomist. She has 3 kids of her own, Daniel - 20, Dylon - 17, and Blake - 10. In her free time she loves to travel and spent time with her family.

Miss Bella

Miss Bella has been with Sunny Day Care since 2006. Miss Bella loves to play with the babies in our Infant Room and enjoys watching them grow from tiny infants to just-walking toddlers. Though she is currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management at Oakland Community College, she has a real passion for caring for children and is particularly good at getting the babies to laugh! You can find Miss Bella helping out in our infant, toddler and preschool rooms.

Twos/Toddler Room Teachers

Our Toddler Room is the bridge between babies and preschoolers. The toddlers begin their days with circle time which can be music, calendar, action songs, animal sounds, ABCs, shapes or colors. The main focus of the day is "potty training". With a tiny toilet, the toddlers are able to get on and off by themselves. The goal is to send them off to preschool toilet-trained and up to speed on colors, shapes and calendar.

Miss Laura

Miss Laura has been with Sunny Day Care since 2005 and has always been one of our special Toddler Room teachers. The children love "Miss Wawa" and enjoy her circle time: animal sounds, learning colors, numbers and days of the week. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, and married Roger Wobig (former high school classmate!) in 2010. Her daughter, Ashley, is making a career out of soccer playing for Churchill High School and Livonia travel teams. Miss Laura enjoys reading, family movie nights and being a life-time soccer mom.

Miss Stephanie

Miss Stephanie began assisting the preschool children after her classes at Farmington High School in 2006. After graduation, she joined Sunny Day Care full-time and has been a teacher in the Toddler/Two room ever since. Growing up with a brother who is deaf, Stephanie is quite the sign language expert and enjoys teaching us the basics. She is especially good with our toddlers and a pro at helping them begin the adventures of potty-training in a calm way that makes it a non-threatening experience. She enjoys creating art projects and reading books to the children, and is also great at teaching action songs at circle time using puppets. Her hobbies include reading, camping, bowling, cooking and attending Red Wing games.

Miss Joann

Miss Joann has worked at Sunny Day Care since we moved to this building in 1999. She starts her day in the toddler room, greeting the children and assist with feeding them breakfast. Miss Joann is also respsonsible for setting up the preschool lunches in the gym, tidying up the kitchen and attending to other needs of the various classrooms as the day goes on. With her 3 children grown, Miss Joann finds enjoyment in being around the little ones.

Preschool Teachers

The children in our Montessori Preschool rooms range from 2 1/2 years through 6 years. Our goals are to develop a positive attitude, self-confidence and independence, while fostering curiosity, initiative, persistence, security and sense of order. By working with the senses, we are helping develop sensory-motor skills, ability to discriminate and judge, yet encouraging social development and creative intelligence and imagination. We want the children to have fun while learning in a setting of basic ground rules.

Miss Jenny

Miss Jenny has been a part of the Sunny Day Care family since 2000. She was just 16 when she started working the 3 - 6pm shift after school. Jenny completed Montessori training and graduated from the Michigan Montessori Teacher Education Center in 2007. She is now a Lead Teacher and loves having her own classroom. Miss Jenny enjoys helping the children to learn while having fun at the same time! Miss Jenny and her husband Joe, welcomed their first child, a daughter, Zoey, in August 2011. She looks forward to teaching while just being across the hall from her baby.

Miss Usha

Miss Usha has been with Sunny Day Care since we moved to this building in 1999. She began as a Montessori Aide, then completed Montessori training and graduated from the Michigan Montessori Teacher Education Center in 2007. She has the knack to make everything a child does into a lesson! Miss Usha grew up in England and has raised three daughters (Bhavisha, Gemini and Sapna) here in the U.S. Miss Usha enjoys going back to England to visit her family... and she loves coffee!!

Miss Omea

Before joining the Sunny Day Care team in 2000, Miss Omea attended Ross Medical School where she received her certificate for Medical Insurance Billing. She has worked with the toddlers and is currently a Montessori Aide to Miss Jenny. Miss Omea enjoys being a mom to her daughter, Ariana, and making no-stitch blankets in her spare time.

Miss Zofia

Miss Zofia has been with Sunny Day Care since 1996. She cared for the infants and toddlers at the former building site before we added the Montessori Preschool. Zofia has been a Montessori Aide for several years now and has been assisting Miss Usha since 2007. In addition to being co-workers, they are also very good friends! Miss Zofia is married with two boys in college. In her free time, she loves to cook and bake.
